US President Donald Trump has threatened that Presidential action may be taken against those who are protesting in the Black Lives Matter Protests following the murder of George Floyd, a black man, by the Police in Minneapolis. This threat comes in the wake of uncontrollable protests and riots to end police brutality and systemic racism across the country.
No specifics of the action to be taken has emerged so far.
When the President made the threat, he was referring to the protestors in Washington DC who were trying to take down the statue of Andrew Jackson, a former president, an Army General, and notably, one of Donald Trump’s ideals. His military career is known by the “Trail of Tears” during which he forced 60,000 Native Americans from their land. A portrait of Andrew Jackson hangs in the Oval Office for the duration of Donald Trump’s regime.
Trump was quoted thanking the law enforcement for arresting protesters at Lafayette Park where a monument of Andrew Jackson stands. Protestors were working on toppling the statue.
On Tuesday, Trump tweeted about the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation and Recognition Act of 2003, which is an Iraq War-era law, meant to protect federal symbols of honor for US troopers who lost their lives in combat, protecting the nation’s interest.
